In that ca, you can try changing the ad size to a banner (468×60), which will not leave as much white space.

The blank strip is most likely your Google Adsense space. You have activated it, but not entered any code. Deactivate it, and the blank strip should go away.
Are you talking about the parent page in the menu? You would want to use a custom menu and then try this:

You don’t need a plugin to put google ads between posts; Graphene supports this natively. Just sign up for Google adwords and select the size that best fits into Graphene’s theme, then paste the code in Graphene’s options. Works great!

Try Graphene Options >> General >> Child Page Options

Background info is here: http://blog.kjodle.net/2011/08/27/how-i-created-the-background-you-see-here/
And I usually recommend that people don’t set their backgrounds to scroll. It looks a bit more professional if the background is fixed.

try this:
#text-9 {margin-top: 10px;}This will add a bit of margin just to the text widget that you are using to place those icons.
As an aside, I know this is a matter of personal choice, but I would just use the regular Graphene top bar icons and forget the date and time. Everyone has the date and time available on their computer anyway. Once they scroll down, they don’t see the date and time, and besides, I don’t want to remind people of how much time they are spending on my site. Like a casino, department store, or shopping mall, I want people to linger on my site.
