Use FileZilla to FTP to your site and download the theme files. You can get the original Graphene files from here:

    Yes.

You can also use posts and assign them to a specific category for use in the slider, then exclude that category (and posts from it) from being displayed on the front end other than the slider. It’s all available from Graphene’s slider options.

Another option is to forgo the theme’s slider and use a different plugin that might be better suited to your requirements. Just because it’s there doesn’t mean you have to use it.

Glad you got it resolved. I’m marking this thread as resolved – you can do this as well in the future.

and do I really even have to create a child theme?

If you want to be able to update the theme in the future without losing your customisations, yes.

I have my website backed up every 36 hours by my hosting company so if I mess something up cant I just asked them to bring back the last copy? (Im new to this)

You can, but it can take some time for them to do so. Also, some server backup can’t restore individual files, so they’ll probably have to restore your entire server/domain, with the database and all.

You just need to backup the theme’s files that you modified so that you can reference to them later on. Relying on the server backup just for that is definitely an overkill.

please there has to be a way to not start over again???

Not really, no. This is why we always encourage people to never edit the theme’s files, and start with a child theme from the beginning. Though you could use a diff checker program to check the difference between the original theme files with the files you have updated. This will help in the transition a bit, but you’ll still have to migrate all those changes to a child theme.

When you mean “start over” does that mean all the plugins I installed and widgets, and the colors iv picked and the words iv typed will be erased ?

No, just the changes that you’ve made to the theme’s files. All other contents and plugins are separate, and will not be affected.

Don’t bump your own topic when it has just been 5 hours since you posted. This is a community support forum, and everyone here is volunteering their time to help people out. So be patient a little bit.

With regard to your issue, since you’ve been editing the theme’s files, I’m afraid you’ll have to start over again. In general the process goes like this:

    1. Download your current modified theme for backup

    2. Replace the theme on your site with the original Graphene theme

    3. Create and activate the child theme

    4. Make changes to the child theme to reflect the changes you previously made to the theme files

Delete the plugin files that you uploaded. Then, go to WP Admin > Plugins > Add New > Upload. Then, upload the gmneo-helper.zip file to install the helper plugin.
