I didn’t knowingly make any changes to the theme files. I do have someone who helps now and then. They may have done so without my knowing. I’ll try to be more careful with that.

I really appreciate your help! My friend here couldn’t help me, and he was the one who told me to suck it up. Didn’t mean to take my frustrations out here.

I know I could just suck it up, but I really don’t want to use excerpts on the front page.

I just tried that, and it restored the blue top borders to the widgets, but it did not fix the problem with the excerpts. The black bar that should be at the bottom is still at the top, and the sidebar is still down below the post. I’ve left it this way so that you can see what it looks like. Please take a look. Here’s what I’ve done so far. I validated the CSS and fixed the problems. That has helped with some of my issue. I can now use the slider, and I actually like it better the way that it is, though I wish I still had the blue border. I cannot, however, display full posts on the front page. Only excerpts.

Also, on both the front page and the individual posts, I have lost the blue header to each of the widgets that I have in the sidebars. On the posts, I now have all the images from my footer widget running vertically below the text of the post, instead of horizontally.

I really hate to sound so useless, but I just don’t know enough about CSS and all of this. I feel like every time I fix something, that I mess something else up. I would appreciate any feedback anyone can give me. I’m going to leave it alone for a few hours, so if you’d like to take a look: http://indiereaderhouston.com

The black bar is the one that is normally at the bottom of the page with copyright info. I don’t know how to move it, though.

The above problem re: sidebars seems to be limited to select posts. I think it has something to do with the embedded media. Going to take a look at that tomorrow. Thanks!

Well, I take that back. The right sidebar is still dropping down below the post. It’s fine on the front page. And it was doing alright otherwise until the last few minutes. I disabled all the plug-ins at one point earlier, and started adding them back and rebuilding the sidebars. The only thing I couldn’t figure out how to deactivate and remove was the Hotlinks Protection that I had to add over the weekend. Could that be causing the problem?

Thank you! I figured out the sidebar issue, and I’m continuing to play with my layout. I do have another problem, though. For some reason, when I set it to show just the excerpts (and disable the slider) everything is fine, but when I enable the slider and disable the excerpts, there’s a heavy black line that covers the top of the slider and the two other columns. I’d prefer to use the slider and show the full text of the post. Any suggestions?
