Thanks Prasanna, you beat me to it!
danielleruthgee – if you’re not already using it, Firebug extension for Firefox is invaluable in discovering how things are done. It also allows you to make temporary changes in real time – very cool.
One note on that events calendar plugin – it seems to break the WP-PageNavi plugin. I’ll be looking for a new events solution.
Thank you!
The events calendar is the “Event Calendar 3 for PHP 5.3” – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/event-calendar-3-for-php-53/
The RSS boxes at the bottom are just the RSS widget inside the “frontpage footer widget area” I did apply a min-height to make them all the same height. It looks like I need to increase it just a bit to allow for overly long titles!
oops, sorry, brain fade! I’d deleted the closing bracket previous to the new code, rendering it useless. Thanks again!
Thanks guys, that did it. Curiously, even with a !important declaration, it didn’t work when I added it to my css. It doesn’t even show up in Firebug. I had to add it to the theme custom css, any idea why?
Sonja, I don’t know why, but it seems that they are getting a crop command from a bit of php in theme-setup(?) At that point, I decided I was out of my depth, and learned to live with it. 😉
I find it curious that if you set a featured image, the homepanes coding sets it as left aligned. If you let it pull the image from your post, it aligns to the center. Both ways are the same size and aspect ratio.

I also find that if I don’t define a featured image, any local image in the post becomes the featured image for the homepage pane.(?)
Thanks again…
Thank you. I’m still playing with some details, but I’m happy with the overall look. I hadn’t seen the Bartik menu before, thanks. I only get to do site stuff every couple years, so I try to enjoy it and learn something when I get the chance.
