In reply to: I changed Column width options But How do I change the size of page and post containers ?
September 19, 2013 at 11:08 pm #40561Ian. I saw your test page. I can’t tell on the speed as I am on an ultra slow connection right now, and everything is slow 🙁
However, to get the no sidebars effect on just the front page only, there has to be a way.
I have used a plugin before that allowed me to have a different front page layout, but I haven’t tried that on Graphene yet. I am still a learner on many things WordPress.
I did just see this ” You can use a different template for a static front page with Graphene. Just edit the page and under “Page Attributes” choose a different template.” It may be worth looking into.
There is a demo of it here: http://demo.graphene-theme.com/layout-and-formatting/column-modes/one-column/
Front page is all one column, with the sub pages (the couple I looked at) having a side column.
Let me know how you get on 🙂

September 19, 2013 at 12:29 am #40557I just tested this, and if you use the single sidebar option, but change the settings to:
Container 1000px
Content 980px
Sidebar 0px
You get the right result, except for the header image which is now a bit small, and needs re-uploading maybe ?
The single column NO sidebar option, does what you say and keeps the setting at the default one.
It should work if you can’t find a CSS way.

Then select third option down “Column Width Options”
Then change the column widths for post and sidebar content.
I assume you put 1000px in the Container width.
Now put content width and sidebar width of whatever you need.
I use 1200px for container and 840px for content with 280px for sidebar
You could drop the sidebar and just do 980px for content, and 0 for sidebar ?
Does that help ?
I just had the same problem when I upgraded from 1.9.1 to 1.9.2
Mine was automatically switched to 20-13, with a broken theme message.
Then I deleted Graphene from the themes menu. – Do NOT delete the child theme.
Then I did a normal install of Graphene via the normal install theme option.
Then I activated it
Then I activated my Child Theme.
The child theme had all its settings still there.
Back to normal.. sort of, fingers crossed 😉
I have had this problem a few time.
You need to reset your menus and reset your header image, after changing to the child theme.
Each time the theme changes they drop back to default.
That should fix that look, although you say it doesn’t retain the changes? That does sound odd, although I change mine on the normal Menu change option, NOT in the left hand side bar for Graphene options.
Not sure about the widget though
Thanks for that, I will remember for next time.
Any idea about the changes I need to do to get the result with wrapped text ?
Thanks.
In reply to: Can I convert a modified Graphene parent theme to a Child theme?
August 24, 2013 at 12:34 pm #39989OK. That makes sense. All the changes have been done via the options pages, I think, so should be retained in a new child theme.
I am beginning to follow the process now. The main theme and the child theme share the single “options” settings?
Thanks
.

August 24, 2013 at 7:43 am #39987“not understanding the functionality of the child theme”
I think that is a common problem – Children can never be understood. Themes or real 😉
But you are right.
What is confusing, is that if changes are made to the parent theme, before a child theme is created, why aren’t they automatically seen in the child theme?
Why does it need something so complex to get the child theme to look like the parent theme, when they are so integrated?

August 24, 2013 at 5:44 am #39985Can the Import/Export theme options do anything on this?
ie: export theme options from the original one, and import into a child theme?
Would this do any, or all of the changes ?
