What will the length and format be? Are you going to include the text, or link to a .pdf of the press release?

A full press release seems a little long to include in a text widget, even if it’s only a half page long, which is why I mentioned .pdf’s. You can always upload those (I think you need a plugin to upload a .pdf to the media gallery, although I may be wrong) and then you can just link to them.

Ken we are actually going to post the press release via HTML and want to link to it using the Subject line. Not sure where to put that HTML yet, Blog, or pages.

Why not use a seperate links widget, label it something like “In The News”, and just list the links, using descriptive titles?

You can also create posts for the releases, so that they will appear in the slider, adjusting the number of images to match up with the number of releases, and perhaps set the background to a special image.

Hey Kenn – Thank bro, but I think that plugin is too much, I am looking for something very simple. Although I dotn fully understend it yet, what Richard said sounds like like a good idea.

Hey Richad – Thank you for the info, seperate links widget, is that a plugin? or just an HTML text box from the widget area? I kinda like this idea, its simple. We will be adding the Press Releases as a Page that does not display in the Top Bar menu, but I do want the option to turn this into an menu and add it to the top bar later.

Thanks again guys, based on what I said, let me know if you have any other suggestions?

Actually, you can create links from your dashboard, assign them to a unique link category (“releases”) and then create use the “Links” sidebar widget to place them anywhere in a widget-ready area.

Hey Kenn – That sounds easy too, are you talking about the “Quick Press”? if not where do I find that option to “create links” in the dash board?

Also I looked at the “Links” BlogRoll widget, but it does not allow me to use a single catagory, its only giving the option for “All Links” and “BlogRoll”

Am I in the wrong place or doing the wrong thing?

    Nope, not Quickpress.

In your Dashboard, look to the left. The links icon is just below the media gallery and just above the pages icon.

Nobody ever seems to use this feature of WordPress–including me. That’s why it took me so long to remember it. But it’s handy.

About the widget: yep, it’s the one marked “Blogroll”. You’ll need to create some links with a different category. Then, when you drag that widget over to a widget area, you’ll get the option from a list of checkboxes to choose whichever link categories you would like.

QuickPress — I haven’t thought about that in a long time. I’ll have to play around with it some.

Sorry, that’s not a list of checkboxes. The link categories will appear in a pop-up menu.
