    I think i will just give up on this and not upgrade on live site

    We could help to fix this issue on a live site. But, it is very hard to give suggestions by looking at images.

    If you use child-theme, remove all .php files (especially footer.php) from your child-theme folder, clear your browser’s cache, and check if it’s working.

    I agree. I can’t figure out what you mean by the image you posted. A screen capture would be much better.

    this is on my local site and am a bit reluctant apply to live site until i have this sorted

    Like I always say, sometimes you just gotta live with the ugly until you get it sorted.

    But if you use Firebug, you might be able to figure this out on a local site, because Firebug will give you on-th-fly editing.

    That is a screen capture just edited and I am not using child theme.

    I will give it a think before I upgrade on live site as I’m happy enough the now and the upgrade dosen’t have anything that i notice thats better for me
