I did try to add the css to the child theme’s stylesheet and then tried to add the divs to the header.php but that broke it.

I don’t know if I added the Divs to wrong place in the hearder.php or something though.

Unfortunately I don’t know anything about action hooks, is there a simple way of explaining how they work and how to implement them?

I think I have just got it; when I create a page I need to select the layout and not use the “Default Layout” option.
