Thanks! For some reason I searched for “homepanes” instead of “homepage panes” and didn’t find any discussion. I applied the fix and it worked.

Hmmm, the Show Authors plugin seems to have no effect. I just installed it, networked activated it and nothing changed. There appeared to be no settings page and no other instructions on the plugin site. You would think there would be a one line function or even a wordpress check box to fix this.

Kalin’s plugin looks interesting, but seems like it will take some hours to understand and incorporate it, so I will leave that for another day.

In the meantime, I think I will just predate, uncategorize and noindex/nofollow a blank post for new authors to effectively hide it.

Happening to me to for the 1.15 update, though I have temporarily stopped using the mobile switch anyway since I fear that it may have hurt me on my pagerank. I am considering trying a different mobile switching software at some point, though.

    Downloading update from http://dev.khairul-syahir.com/wordpress/updates/download.php?key=8ec0bc4a83e966f0bcce42c614895e3f…

    Unpacking the update…

An error occurred while updating Graphene Mobile: Incompatible Archive. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature.

So I updated to the newest version of Graphene and still no luck. Any new thoughts?

I tried using addthis code and for some reason it used the RSS feed icon instead of the facebook like icon. I’m guessing I could play with the css for a few hours and figure it out, but it made me think that maybe the RSS hook is not the ideal place? Is there another hook that can get me into the top bar?

Jon: Did you use the RSS hook for everything up top? If not, how did you get it there?

    Thanks!

    Aren’t those buttons really small?

Interesting. I see that and a lot of other code that seems to get added when I go to “inspect element”. I don’t see fb-like or fb-root coming up in any of my style sheets, though I do see references to fb-root in facebook’s connect script so I don’t know how that code gets there. It also doesn’t show when I simply look at the page’s source.

So I tried adding offset arguments to the action calls and also played with using “echo”, but no dice. I am guessing there is some css in the top bar that isn’t friendly to facebook’s code, but not sure what it is. If you look at my page source (http://freetravelgenius.com), you will that the code gets placed in the topbar, it just doesn’t show on the page. It is also clearly after all the meta stuff (not sure if that matters).

Using Chrome’s inspect element features, I can put the final line of code above just about anywhere on the page other than in the RSS Div and it will display, even going directly into the topbar div, above the RSS div.

I believe my solution is either to a) go directly into the topbar div (no idea how to do so using child functions (I don’t want a child header.php, too much code that can change in an update) and then figure out how to mess with the RSS Div’s css so that the rest of that code is on the same line (or somehow delete that and put everything directly in the topbar)

    b) fix something in the RSS div or clearfix class’s css that is preventing the facebook code from showing.

Note, I have tried using both the html5 and xfbml versions of the like button and they both seem to react the same way to these issues.

    Ideas?

    Thanks!

I am not sure if the functionality needs to be inside the theme, but maybe we could share the website names of Graphene sites that have implemented advanced “socialization”. We can then keep a thread of the techniques those people used to make it easier for the rest of us with limited coding experience. I can do a lot if someone holds my hand through changes to my child function.php, but usually can’t come up with the code myself.

I started to read the facebook connect/open graph instructions on facebook’s site and my eyes glazed over. The coding and even how it all works seems very complicated to me. I tried installing SFC 1.0, and that is ok, but I would probably rather have it customized more to the look and feel of Graphene.

Where I want to end up:

In the top bar have the following:

Tweet this icon to tweet about the home page

A google plus one button (initially without the count) for the home page

Facebook Like button (initially without the count) that will like the home page

Pictures of all the viewers facebook friends that like the site

Maybe the viewer’s fb avatar with the “Hi Dave,” stuff like tripadvisor.com has.

Have all the icons look good together like the current ones do.

    For each post

Tweet this icon to tweet about the post

A google plus one button (initially without the count) for the post page

Facebook Like button (initially without the count) that will like and share the post

Pictures of all the viewers facebook friends that like the post

Also, I have thirty something likes on facebook.com/FreeTravelGenius and want to someone carry those over, though I hear that may not be possible. Maybe when I’m done I send some type of message that that page is transitioning over and please click this like button instead.

    My site, btw: http://freetravelgenius.com

In reply to: remove page titles from content area

    I second matty2809’s question.

I added your code to custom css so that my home page: freetravelgenius.com would be cleaner. I want my reader to get right to the content. My real issue is now the category achieve pages don’t have any titles on them. I could add back the “Category Archive” subtitles, but is there a way to remove the words “Category Archive”. That would probably be the best since I kid of like the blue bar.
