    Hi all,

I have begun my journey designing a website for the first time and would love any advice for improving it.

I am a brick layer and my sister has just started as a qualified Personal Trainer so i jumped at the chance to build her a website as it’s something i’ve always been interested in.

If anyone fancies having a look and giving some feedback and ways to improve the functionality or design then it would be hugely appreciated as i have found myself in a rather steep learning curve!

    Website is http://www.lmrfit.com

Many thanks for any advice / feedback,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

It’s a good start for some one that’s never done a website before – well done.

    Couple of points:

1/ Loose the search bar – very few people use them, plus there’s not a lot to search on the site anyway.

2/ Lose the comments widget – again no point in that

3/ Tone the font size down – far to ‘in your face’..!

4/ white space at right of header – make header same width as page layout

5/ I would always put a contact number in the header area as well for this type of site

6/ For a personal training you MUST have an about me page…

7/ Tone the footer colour down a lot – and blend the text in – it’s not an important area for visitors

8/ Reduce the size of your background picture its far to big @ 1.4MB that just adds load time

9/ Add a newsletter subscribe widget

    hope that help a bit.

all made using this great Graphene Theme – its the best you can get……..

    Moved to Showcase.

Agree with most of the above.

You can also add this to the menu area if you use a custom menu.

    Definitely!

wow that’s some great advice, thanks guys 🙂 looks like i have my weekend sorted out for me! One thing i dont know how to do is get rid of the comments widget though, its been bugging me for a while but i cant do anything about it! there is no plugin that i installed apart from the ‘really simple twitter feed’ widget so i have no idea where it has come from!

Can’t see any comments widget – perhaps you have fixed this now..?
