Install http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/php-code-widget/ or http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-php-widget/

Then enable any of the action hook widget areas. Then add a php widget to it with the above code.

Don’t give up. It is very easy to add the sharing buttons below the rating. I think you are doing something wrong. Are you sure the function is fdx_add_sharethis() ?

Alternately, you can consider using http://www.addthis.com/ sharing buttons.
