Template for a Page of Categories

    Hey,

I used to use a theme called suffusion a few years ago. One of the things I liked was that I could create a page, and then apply any of my existing categories as a template, which in effect, created a page of posts from one category.

I wish I knew WordPress a little better and am trying learn more, because I’m not sure what exactly the difference is between that, and the actual category archive page. I do know how to create just a blank template so that it shows up under the templates that can be chosen from, and I’m assuming that maybe I could just copy the category template from the them and modify it to query only the specific category of posts that I’m wanting.

Can anyone tell me basically what (if at all) is the difference between having a page that queries and displays posts from one category, and the actual category archive page? I’m just wandering why the author of suffusion did it that way. He is a brilliant programmer and I’m sure he had a reason.

Just curious. I would like to try and do it myself so I could learn how to query posts and see how Graphene goes about doing it. And this isn’t a request for a new feature basically, but just something I wanted to give a shot, but figured it may be best here.

    Thanks again!

Were you able to apply more than one category to that page? That is, if you chose categories “foo1” and “foo2”, the only posts that would show up were those that were in both categories?

No, it was just one category that could be chosen. I may go download the theme later today and look around and see exactly what it does. It is probably the most complex theme there is, as far as options go, but it is way too many options and it’s just actually gotten a little tacky in my opinion.

But back on the subject, one thing that I noticed when I would apply a category template to a page, is that Google started promoting them to subpages in the search results. So my site would show up, and then the most relevant pages would show under it, with a couple of them being a page of posts from a certain category.

I’ll may ask him and see what he says.
