Stuck…

Hey guys, I’m helping someone from the forum get his child theme set up. Everytime I go to preview or activate, something interferes and the sites formatting gets scrambled.

His site is in Portuguese.. so I’m not sure what all plugins area installed.

My question is this… is it possible a plugin could interfere with a child theme not loading properly?

Yes, it’s conceivable. Remember, what happens when you load a child theme is that it loads the child theme’s stylesheet (since that’s the only thing in the folder), then the parent theme’s stylesheet, and then all the parent theme’s other files. If you have a plugin that tries to jostle its way to the top, it could possibly mess things up.

Having said that, I think it would be pretty hard to hit that on the Wheel of Fail. Does this happen with other themes? Does the child theme have a functions.php file that contains bad code?

You can temporarily disable all plugins by simply renaming the plugin folder, but this requires FTP access, of course.

Haha… the “Wheel of Fail”. I’ll tell you, that things gets me more often than you’d think.

Umm, I removed the functions.php so the only thing in the folder was the style.css. And there are NO customizations in it.. just the call to pull the parent stylesheet.

Again, his site is in a foreign language to me, and I don’t want to mess things up. I was hoping it’d be an easy job. So, I’ll refer him to the post and let him take it from here.

    Thanks Ken.
