I’ve not called myself elderlyellen for nothing – for me learning about new tech stuff stopped in the 90s. But I’ve reentered the fray (www.eefg.co.uk) and installed Graphene. It almost looks great. But due to my inability to change geek into (UK) English I can’t get it the last few steps to greatness. I want a static front page, with no posts – but I’ve got an intrusive sidebar which appears to relate to posts. And I’ve also got, on the front page (home page?), under the Graphene header, which is itself appropriate, an empty box with a graded blue border round it. I can neither see how to get rid of this box (probably because I don’t know what type of box, ie what it’s called) nor can I see how to put any text in it. I’ve tried the documentation, but don’t know what to look for. Help, please!

You can have one column no sidebar layout for your homepage. Go to Dashboard –> Pages and quick edit the About us page. Then select One column no sidebars layout in page template.

That’s the slider. You can disable it in Graphene Options –> Slider Options –> Disable slider.
