Social buttons on index pages?
Social buttons are to share/recommend a page. If they show up on an index page, they won’t link to the post in question, but to the index page as a whole.
If you really wanted to, you could implement this via a child theme, but it would be tricky (if not impossible) to get the results you are looking for.
Hmmm. Maybe I’m mistaking what an “index” page is. I mean something like your homepage where you have 10 or whatever posts listed. People should not have to click through to the actual post before they can share. If I use Sharedaddy from the Jetpack it does this. However, it seems to conflict with Graphene. For some reason it only shows social links on some posts and not others and I can’t figure out the pattern. If I change themes, it works fine, so it’s definitely something with the theme itself. Nevertheless, I would prefer to use the built in capability of Graphene even if Sharedaddy were working properly.Mod

No, you are correct in this.
People should not have to click through to the actual post before they can share.
But the expectation is that people should actually read the entire post before they share. Do you have excerpts on your front page, or complete posts?
(BTW, you should include a link to the site in question, as per the forum rules. Maybe Graphene does support this and there is a conflict with some other plugin we could help you to figure out.)
I use Addthis plugin for my some of my social sharing and it shows on the home page. I use the graphene theme social sharing option for my facebook sharing and it doesn’t show on the homepage. you have to open the article for you to see that. So I guess you can use Addthis to show social sharing links on your homepage
I hope you find this bit of information helpful.
Yes, I agree. Addthis is great. You can select your form of sharing and copy and paste from their website into your blog. I use it myself, but it’s so simple, I pretty much forgot about it. If you register on their site, you also get stats, which are important to a lot of people.
Thanks for the reminder! (Love your site, BTW!)
