select menu feature for custom menu

    Hi,

    General menu questions…

Is it possible to add the select menu feature to a custom menu added to a widget?

I would much prefer that the custom menu is hidden and when activated, drops down from the corner as happens in the top menu, rather than the menu choices being visible all the time.Is this possible?

A good example of what I mean is the mobile website for theThe Guardian. If you scroll to say sport, and press in the corner, then the menu opens out.

Any pointers as to how this might be achieved? A long shot I know, but any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Currently it is not possible to apply the <select> menu feature to any other custom menu apart from the theme’s header and footer menu.

However, the menu behaviour being used in The Guardian mobile site can be achieved by using custom CSS and/or JS scripts, though the implementation may be a little too complicated if you’re not well-versed in PHP, JS, and CSS.

    Thanks for the reply, Syahir.

I sort of guessed through my research that it was js/css. Probably over my head, though I will take a look around as its (The Guardian) functionality is great.

My problem is that with my site having clearly defined areas within areas is getting that across on the mobile site in the simplest way possible. Of course, I am not going to use the same dropdowns and secondary menus as the desktop site, but is helps the user to know where they are, so some kind of neat sub menus are needed.

The select menu itself does not act as a highlighted parent, even if the the pages opened are children – I notice that it reverts to navigate to page the moment you move off the page selected in the menu – I sort of hoped it would stay with the parent until you moved away from its childs?

    Lots to think about…

    Thanks again

OK, we’ll add this improvement in the next update.

Good stuff, sure there will be other questions and queries but many thanks as always.
