My home page displays the most recent blog posts.

I noticed that in Google Seach, my meta description under my home page — is text from the body of a random post on my site.

Search – Bodrum Travel Guide… I’m 4th on the list. http://www.bodrumpeninsulatravelguide.co.uk

I’d like to revise this meta description to pull in a more generic Meta description, that is more description for what my site is about. Please can you let me know how I can revise my meta description.

Try the SEO by Yoast plugin.

But, keep in mind that a search engine can add whatever description they like.
