Replace Graphene slider
I want to replace the original Graphene slider with Metaslider (probably the Nivo item) in order to use plain images to open external URL as well as internal links.
I have found some interesting experience on the forum :
KingSwiff’s post :Quote:After testing and testing I finally know, that you can remove the Graphene slider and put the shortcode from the Meta slider into the action hook graphene_index_pre_loop … and tadaaa the Meta slider will be on the frontpage 🙂
I too want the new slider to be displayed at the same place as the original one and only on the homepage, which is static.
So I disabled the Graphene slider and I activated graphene_index_pre_loop, but I found no place where to paste the Metaslider short code. Instead – and far better provided it would work… – I discoved in the Widgets page that Metaslider proposed the name of the newly-activated hook as a new location to display the slider, and the area devoted to the hook offered a Metaslider menu to select which slideshow to use. Marvellous!
But it did not work.
What I have tested then:
includes/theme-slider.php : all of the 7 options : Nothing.
graphene_header Replaces the header
graphene_before_content Displays at the right place, but on all posts and pages
graphene_before_content_main Displays at the right place, but on all posts and pages
graphene_top_content Displays within posts and pages (inside at the top)
graphene_before_post Displays within posts and pages (inside at the top)
Perhaps I have not tested the right location yet. Or the Graphene authors may have forgotten something. I’m afraid we’ll have to resort to php. The only time I opened a php file I ran away in horror… Help! Thanks.ModQuote:includes/theme-slider.php : all of the 7 options : Nothing.
These relate to Graphene’s built-in slider; they won’t show if it’s disabled.
When you add the shortcode in these locations, what are you adding it to?Quote:I’m afraid we’ll have to resort to php. The only time I opened a php file I ran away in horror
Yes, please don’t edit theme files. It’s always a bad idea.
I have found a reasonable solution to my problem. And it is very simple.
The Graphene slider CAN do what I want : display only photos on which you can click to open external URLs as well as internal links.
All is done is the TinyMCE Editor.
I create as many pages as I have images to display. The titles of the pages will appear as captions.
The pages are left EMPTY. The photos are FEATURED images linked to the pages.
For each individual photo I have 2 settings to select in the specific options of the slider (we are still with TinyMCE. My version is not in English so I am not sure about the real wording).
The first option is about global parameters or first image or custom links or Featured image. Selection should be featured image.
Then we have something twice about URL of the custom image (?). The first text area can remain empty, The second is used to write or paste the permalink or URL of the document which will be opened by a click on the slider image.
The relevant pages are selected in the Graphene options by their ID numbers.
I am only 75% satisfied with this solution… I would like the link to open in a new page (target blank). But I don’t know how to do it.AdminQuote:I am only 75% satisfied with this solution… I would like the link to open in a new page (target blank). But I don’t know how to do it.
You’ll need to use a child theme to achieve that, as you’ll need to modify the output of the slide’s link. If you have a child theme, we can guide you on how to do it.
