Question about child pages of main secondary menu items

    Hi

Quick question. I’d like to split the listings for ‘Chisels’ on this page, into separate

pages, ie ‘carving chisels’, ‘bevel chisels’, and have each new page as a dropdown

from the secondary main ‘Chisels’ link in the secondary menu bar.

    http://www.hackneytools.com/forsale

However, I would then need to kill-off the Chisels page as it now is, so that people

aren’t clicking on a main page, but have to choose one of the child pages for that

category. How do I only show a main category in the secondary bar, but not actually

have it as a real page any more??

Sorry, this is probably a very basic question, but I can’t get my head around it.

    Thanks

If you are using a custom menu, just use a “Link” for “Chisels”and put “#” in the link address.

    Hi Kenneth

Al working, except did you mean a ‘#’ in the Permalink box, after http://www.hackneytools.com ?

That didn’t clear the ‘Planes’ page, I can still click on it, so I guess you mean somewhere else?

    Thanks

Sorry, I should say I changed the ‘Planes’ nav, not the Chisels nav, that one is next. I split Planes into

Wooden and Metal, and just the Planes main page needs to be non-clickable now

Can someone help with the last bit of this when you have time please? Just wondering where to put

the ‘#’ to kill off a link on the main page listed in the secondary menu.

    Thanks

Put it where the address goes.

    Hi Kenneth

    Sorry, feeling incredibly dumb here.

On the page I want to affect, I open that page, as though editing it, and it’s blank,

apart from the title of the page, then above, there’s a Permalink box, with the url

of the page? even though that has an ‘Edit’ button next to it, I can’t wipe the whole

address and put in a hash obviously. Adding a hash at the end, instead of

‘/planes’ doesn’t work either. Is this what you mean, or am I looking at the wring thing?

You need to be in the Menu editing pane, not the page editing pane.

Ah! Ok, so ok. I’m in that Menu. I have a dedicated custom menu for the ‘For Sale’ page, with

top level secondary menu items, and their child pages.

For the top level page I want to break the link on, I have ‘Navigation Label’, ‘Title Attribute’ and

a checkbox for ‘Open link in a new window’. That’s the only options I have? I don’t see anything

    to change a link?

If it’s easier to point me to a tutorial Kenneth, please do so.

    Thanks again

    Gary
