Post/excerpt images missing after updating from 2.8.2 to 2.8.3

Tried updating to 2.8.3 yesterday and again this morning. Each time, I lost my custom CSS font-size (now huge) and list and blockquote settings but more importantly, lost my post images and the images accompanying the menu of post excerpts on the home page.

Even after reverting to 2.8.2 (restored an earlier version of the site from backup) the excerpt images were gone until I navigated to page 2 and then used the “previous page” arrow to navigate back to page 1. Clicking on the page 1 link did not restore images. After using the “back” arrow all images display correctly regardless of navigation option used (even page 1). Guessing some sort of weird caching issue.

With 2.8.3, the images never returned no matter what I tried… URL is levantium.com

The same thing has happened to me, though I blame the default settings in the new version.

The way to change it back from Grid (Customizing ▸ Graphene: Display Posts layout) to Standard (which gives you the images on the home page) is only available in the paid version of Graphene. Since the Standard look is what I prefer, I guess I’m being effectively forced to paying for the theme, a decision I’ve yet to make. Doing so has been on my mind but this underhanded way of forcing me isn’t making the decision easier.

I’d like to wait to hear what the Graphene folks say. I have invested a lot of time and energy into customizing this site, and I’ve already had to abandon several features I really liked in the early versions (rounded corners, background/watermark images on posts and the home page, a nice graphics calendar, etc.). I know everything is moving towards fluid/adaptive layouts, but I wish they’d left in some of the features that made this theme stand out from its competitors…

Can you update to 2.8.3 again so that we can assess the issue and assist you in troubleshooting the site?

This isn’t the case. Even in Graphene Plus, the default posts layout is set to Standard instead of Grid. The default is always set to the common feature set between Graphene and Graphene Plus.

I will try to do so tomorrow. I’ll take a before (2.8.2) screenshot of the home page and maybe a post, and then the after versions with 2.8.3. Thanks!

Thats what I thought too, but then this:

The screenshot (if it works) clearly shows the Grid style is selected, not Standard.

That is just a static image of the feature. It doesn’t actually reflect the default settings.

I see … that’s unfortunate then because I, too, have the same problem with the images not showing up on the home page, and it would have been nice to be able to blame the problem on something 😉

The images disappeared after I updated the theme. I’m using a child-theme, would that be significant? My customizations are minor (mostly some colours and fonts) so if switching back to the original is recommended, I can try that.

Syahir, I don’t have time to update Graphene and then roll it back again. Go to Levantium.com and look at the home page excerpts. The new version is identical except that the images alongside the excerpts are missing and the excerpt fills the full width of the space available. Also font sizes generally throughout the site are larger. It did not appear that my custom CSS settings had changed (they were pretty minor anyway). If I find time, I’ll do the before/after screenshots…

Just updated to 2.8.4 and all seems well. I have before and after screenshots, but am not sure how to upload/attach… Anyway, it looks good. Some of the text related to the comments section is a bit oversized compared to the rest of the page, but I may be able to toy with some custom CSS for that.
