Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ':' in functions.php on line 39

    Hi,

I am getting this error when I move around my site after I tried to add some code to the bottom of the functions.php –

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘:’ in /home/fitnesse/public_html/wp-content/themes/graphene/functions.php on line 39

I have removed the code I added at the bottom. It is a new installation of graphene theme.

Please can someone advise what I need to do to fix.

I can see the home page but when I click on the links I get the error and also when I go to my wp-admin page

    Thanks,

    Wayne

Ok – I’ve fixed it by uploading a new functions.php file.

You should avoid editing theme files directly. Instead, use a child theme to make modifications like this:

    http://docs.graphene-theme.com/Customisation_using_a_child_theme

Marking thread as resolved. You can do this yourself as well.

    Hi,

I seem to have made the same mistake and can’t navigate anywhere through wordpress or my hosting to get back to the stylesheet to correct the issue.I see how this could have been avoided as per your post above Kenneth John Odle, but I honestly don’t know how to fix this myself, or if it even is possible. As you can tell, I am not great with editing. Click and drag sites, widget installation, colour code and height and width changes are about as far as I go!

If you could help me out I would appreciate it! I am also trying to change the content width and once I figure that out and am happy with how I’ve edited the site, I will definitely donate!!!!

    My site is http://www.riverrockhealth.ca

…and the exact error code: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/content/05/11610705/html/wp-content/themes/graphene/functions.php on line 41

    Thanks!
