Nav bar colors not changing
-
Hello – my site is http://www.horsesandheels.com
In red you will see my navigation bar & drop down menus. I want to change the color. In the past, I just went to my Graphene options & custom CSS & changed the colors from there. It always worked like a charm. But now I have changed the colors & the red just won’t go away. I’ve refreshed, cleared cache & done everything I could think of. I also have tried using the color option tab under Graphene options to change them & they show the different color but don’t do anything as well.
Can anyone please tell me how I might be able to change the colors or if I need to look somewhere else?

How did you change the colors this time? Via custom CSS or Graphene custom options?
Use one or the other; I wouldn’t use both. See if that clears up the issue.
You are also using a dropdown menu widget plugin. Try disabling that and seeing if the problem goes away.
I changed the widget colors today with the graphene custom options & the footer with the custom CSS. The used to be with custom CSS, I did the exact same thing I did to get the footer to change & it didn’t work. I haven’t tried disabling the plugin yet, but I will try that out.
I did remove the custom CSS from the options for the nav bar & nothing has happened though, so hopefully the plug in works.

There are several things going on here:
- You have modified the theme’s files, including the
style.cssfile - The menu markup doesn’t appear to be the original markup that comes with the theme. This is possibly because you’ve edited the theme’s files, or another plugin has completely replaced the theme’s menu.
The two things above are causing the issues you’re describing, for the code that defines the background colour of the menu is still in the modified
style.cssfile.If I were you, I would do a backup of the current theme files, update the theme to the latest version, then re-do the customisations using just the theme options and a child theme, without ever modifying the theme’s files. That way, things will mostly work as they are intended, and you’ll be able to update the theme in the future without losing your customisations.
THank you Syahir, that does make a lot of sense.
I did pay someone many months ago to fix somethings with the nav bar drop downs & perhaps they uninstalled the theme default. I will reach out to them & see if they can help. Normally I try to figure out the minor details on my own, but I’m still learning a lot as I go. You have done a wonderful job with Graphene & I really appreciate this forum.
