Make static homepage look like archive pages

I am updating my site a bit and am trying to make a static homepage that looks like the archive pages. Is there a straight forward way to do this?

Since I couldn’t find a straight forward way, I am monkeying around with the homepage css in my child theme. So far I have managed to get one column of summaries, changed the fonts and made the image thumbnails float left. There are some other details that I am still trying to figure out, but I thought I would ask for help with the biggies first.

My site is http://www.theexperimentalhome.com. I have my homepage set as posts until I figure out how to make the static homepage look right. I know that is less than convenient for you, but I won’t be able to sleep if my page looks wonky.

    1. I want to put the title above the image and add the date icon to the left, like on the archive pages.

    2. Every other summary (the ones that would have been in the right column) have a left margin while the others do not. I can’t figure out how to remove that margin.

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thanks!
