I will pay for help…

Is the creator of Graphene the moderator of this site? I want very much to pay per question (so I don’t feel guilty like I am taking advantage). I intend to donate if/when I monetize my site. I need help…

I am developing 2 sites using Graphene. I am new to this and doing better than I expected. But I ran into a hurdle. I am stumped. I can not figure out what I am doing wrong relative to comments. On one site, I kept the Home page on the Top menu and then added pages to the Top menu; on this site I feel I have control over comments. I want comments from readers only on my posts page (blog page).

But on my other site, I got rid of the Home page and created an About Us page with sub-page Mission as the static front page. I created a Blog page and set that as my posts page. I am hoping to enable comments for the Blog page, the posts page, but not for any of my static pages.

I tried different things for well over 90 minutes and I can not seem to enable comments on my Blog posts page even though I tried a combination of things including reading through the forum here and trying things suggested.

    Please help?

It would be really helpful to include links to both sites, so we can see what’s going on. But without seeing that, here’s a potential plan of attack:

    1) Check Settings >> Discussion to make sure you have comments turned on overall.

    2) Go to Graphene Options >> General Options >> Comment Options and make sure that you have not disabled commenting on pages.

    3) Graphene will also allow you to override comment options at the page/post level via the “Discussion” pane of your post edit or page edit area. Make sure that you have not turned it off inadvertently. (If you don’t see this, you will need to turn it on via Screen Options. For a tutorial on Screen Options, see this: http://blog.kjodle.net/2012/06/04/use-wordpress-screen-options-to-expand-your-blogging-options/ )

It sounds like there is a bit of confusion over the difference between posts and pages. If so, this might help: http://blog.kjodle.net/2011/08/27/pages-or-posts/

In any event, let us know how you get on with this.

I am hoping to enable comments for the Blog page, the posts page, but not for any of my static pages.

“Blog” page is just a container to show recent posts. So, you can not leave a comments in that page. But, single “post” pages can have comments.

    Thank you, Kenneth John Odle…

I followed each step you offered; thank you. I also visited your main site; it’s very nice. I recently student taught in Kinder in CA this past year, and I can appreciate your work in teaching. Incidentally, I chose not to pursue public ed however.

After reading what you told me to read, I decided to change the Settings, Reading settings, to “Front Page Displays your” latest posts rather than “Front Page Displays” a static page. This seemed to clear up the problem.

When I go to Graphene Options, General, Commenting, I have 3 choices:

    1. Use WordPress settings

    2. Disable for Pages

    3. Disable Completely

I am using option (1), but I don’t know what is meant by “Use WordPress Settings.”

I deactivated my maintenance status in case you have time or interest in taking a peek. HealthMemes.com

I am still fairly confused about what the Front Page is exactly.

I don’t understand how you get paid for helping. How do I pay you? Can I send you $ via postal mail?

    Thanks,

    Julian

I am using option (1), but I don’t know what is meant by “Use WordPress Settings.”

It means that the theme will use whatever settings you have set up in Settings >> Discussion

Also, you might want to set your background to “fixed” rather than “scroll”, which looks better with such a large background image.

I don’t understand how you get paid for helping. How do I pay you? Can I send you $ via postal mail?

None of us get paid for helping. It’s all volunteer work. But we all have Paypal links or “donate” buttons on our blogs.

You have an interesting site. I will check in later to see how it’s coming.

    Thank you.

I intend to donate $10 per issue (pay per question/issue). I owe you $10. I want to pay by PayPal, but my account is under $10. Do you know if I can use a credit card and add to PayPal and then pay you via PayPal? On smaller sites, I prefer to use PayPal.

I wonder where you are in MI. I am in West Bloomfield. No need to tell me if you don’t want to. I have teaching supplies I want rid of; I wonder if you might want them for free.

    Any ways, thanks again….

I’m just south of Kalamazoo. You can send me a message through the front page of my blog. I’m interested.
