How to change black bars at top / bottom of site and various other colours
-
I’m working on the theme here – http://test.tibetanwomen.org/
I’d like to be able to change: the title text colour, the black bar colour at the top of the page, the black menu bar colour, the colours of the drop-down menu text / background / mouseover change, the colours of the the search icon, the colour of the word ‘search’, the colour of the black box and the grey box at the bottom of the page, and the colour of all the text in the black box at the bottom of the page.
I’d like to make these changes as simply as possible – I’m an absolute beginner when it comes to child themes and CSS. Can some of them be made with snippets of code in the ‘Custom CSS’ box or is something else neccessary?
I read here – http://wordpress.org/support/topic/graphene-theme-how-do-i-change-the-default-colors-of-page-list-header-tabs – that the black bars are png images and can be replaced simply if I upload new versions with the same name / format. However, for example, the black bar image at the top of the page looks nothing like how it looks on the page (http://test.tibetanwomen.org/wp-content/themes/graphene/images/sprite_h.png) and I have no idea how to begin editing it(have only MS Paint).

Yes, and in fact, many of your questions have already been answered in this forum. Have a search around and let us know what you have trouble implementing.

This may be an issue for you editing .png images.
Try using GIMP — it’s an open-source image-editing application. Kind of like PhotoShop but without the hefty price tag. You can find it at http://www.gimp.org. It’s ideal for organizations like yours. I think you’ll find all sorts of uses for it.
