How can I pause the slider when a video plays

Is it possible to automatically pause the slider while a video plays?

Nope. By definition, a slider slides. It’s supposed to provide a preview of recent posts and encourage people to visit them. A slider that pauses rather defeats the purpose. (As does including anchor tags in a slider excerpt, I suppose.)

That said, there may be other slider plugins that do pause. You can look around in the plugin repository if you are interested.

Thanks Kenneth. Pretty sure Anythingslider can pause for video. Maybe I’ll see if I can add that functionality to the Graphene theme’s slider.

It is possible, I think, but you would have to write custom jquery script to implement it.

Anythingslider will pause for Videos however it will only do this on non-IE browsers, which is still about 20% of your web visitors:
