Hi my web site is called http://www.white-water-kayaking.net I need some help with the right sidebar. As the heading for the sidebar at the moment says categories I want to change it to say menu but I cannot find any way to do it please help also can you recommend a way or a plug-in so I can put the menu contents in the order that I want to put them in.

My next problem is that I have created a footer menu for the privacy policy and contacts (see main page) if I click on privacy policy or contacts at the bottom of the page, it works fine and goes to the appropriate page, I want the privacy page and the contacts to only stay in the footer menu but at the moment they are also in the blog section of the web site http://www.white-water-kayaking.net/category/blog/ because it seems that I had to connect them to a parent page. If I uncheck the box to connect to a parent page so there is no box checked then both the privacy policy and the contact page go to the top of the main page. So can you please tell me a way that I can put the privacy policy and the contact page in the footer menu only.

    Thanks for your help

You are confusing pages with posts. Read:

Delete those posts and recreate them as pages. Then they will stay out of your blog section.

Use a custom menu to control your menu options. Here is a quick tutorial:

    I think you mean “category”?

If you are using the default categories widget that ships with WordPress, there is no way to do this. However, there are a number of plugins that may help you do this. You can also do it with some basic HTML and PHP. But let’s fix your other issues first.

Thank you so much for your help I have corrected the issues I had before, but now I have a new problem. I have created a new page (white water kayaking gear) I see in the menu section of the WP dashboard it is in categories which is where I want it also a grey menu box is there in the top right saying white water kayaking gear I have saved it and gone to my site in the browser but it does not show up. I have tried various things but it wont work.

    Create a custom menu.

    http://blog.kjodle.net/2011/08/25/how-to-create-and-use-custom-menus-in-wordpress/

This will be used for your main navigation.

Now, create another custom menu and call it “MENU”. Then, go to your widgets and drag a new menu widget over to your sidebar and assign it the “MENU” menu.

Now, to get categories in your sidebar “MENU” follow Ken’s tutorial about custom menus.

It’s the same concept… except you are building a sidebar menu (“MENU”) instead of a main nav menu.
