Is there anyway I can have a permalink within the header that when clicks takes me back to home page?

It is working in your site. But you have to go to some other page to get the homepage link in header. There is no point in linking header image to homepage when you’re on homepage itself!

There is an option to link header image to homepage in Header Display Options. Check options page thoroughly.
