Graphene Mobile questions

I am wondering whether or not to activate my Graphene Mobile theme as so many of my site visitors are on mobile devices. However, I have some questions:

1 What mobile devices are automatically directed to the mobile site? For example, I would prefer iPad and tablet users to continue to direct to the non-mobile site – is this possible?

2 Is there a simple home page link mobile device users can click on to view the non-mobile site if they prefer?

3 Are there any consequences for the search engines? Are pages duplicated, or does having 2 versions of one url upset the organic search engine rankings on google etc?

4 Is Graphene Mobile compatable with my google Adsense? I notice my adsense ads don’t display currently on mobile devices.

    Thank you

Pages are not duplicated. This is the miracle of CSS. There is a separate stylesheet which controls the formatting for computers, and a separate stylesheet which controls the formatting for mobile devices. However, the underlying content remains the same. (In fact, “the pages” are dynamically generated, so technically they don’t exist until a user visits your site.)

Generally speaking, all smartphones will be served the mobile site. Tablets will continue to be served the default desktop theme, though you have the option to have them served the mobile theme as well.

There’s actually no redirecting involved, just that different themes are served to desktop and mobile devices. This saves on loading time for the site as redirection can add quite a substantial amount of waiting time for the users.

Yes, there’s a link at the bottom of the mobile site for mobile users to switch to desktop theme.

Google Adsense for web and for mobile devices use two different codes. You’ll have to sign up for the mobile adsense program in order to serve proper adsense ads to mobile devices.

On top of Kenneth’s answer above, the only possible issue of Google detecting duplicate content is when its crawlers follow the link to switch between desktop and mobile theme. However, this link has been marked as rel="nofollow" in the theme to prevent this very issue from happening.

Kenneth and Syahir, thank you for your answers.

    1) great to know

    2) this is good too, although please note this link does not show when you use the preview facility

    3) and 4) great.

I will have a think. My mobile users don’t interact as much, but the mobile sites look a little basic for smartphones.

This is because you have the option to turn it on and off.
