this is Wendy, I decided to start a new thread.

I have gotten up to creating folder(graphenechild)/files(style.css & functions.php), i had filezilla(FTP) already. connected and downloaded with no problems. Dragged folder. dancing in my chair cuz everything is going smooth, lol.

I think – could be wrong, due to making some custom changes already, i do not have the ‘blank’ child theme listed that i thought was created.

    What to do?

I have added a few crafting tuts, about me info ect and am really hoping i do not have to start back at the beginning. but will if this is easiest.

REMINDER: I am new to all this and need information very basic 😉

n/m … i figured out what mistake i made. I placed my graphenechild folder into the graphene folder, not the theme folder. sure did boost my confidence~ a little. The child template is now showing up……. yes!

i am still not sure about proceeding, tho

I have been searching to see if i do anything different due to already having a custom header & information, so i still need assistance with this.

Once you have your child theme loaded, you need to activate it in the admin panel (themes section). If you uploaded it properly, you will see a new theme (Graphene Child).

Once activating, you will lose any custom header image and background, but these are fairly easy to re-upload.

Everything else will remain un-affected when you activate the child theme.

    again, ty for responding……

i thought maybe there was a way to keep the few things i had done already. i am extremely thankful i had not implemented all the ideas (mainly colors & fonts) that are in my head waiting to make it to my site, lol.

as far as information in posts, photos, pages etc that have been updated already, that will remain as is, correct?

You’re not kidding, sister!! That’s why we try to “push” it on newcomers; because it will save lots of time down the road. The longer you wait, the harder it is to implement.

You bet! All this info is stored in your database. It is always safe when previewing and switching between themes.

I really appreciate you, josh, taking a few minutes to respond.

I am on another project at the moment, but will continue with my site adventure later on this evening.

    Have a great afternoon,

    Wendy
