    Last night someone/bot added hundreds of Comments to my site. As a result, the CPU and resource usage went up. My hosting provider is told me that they might suspend my account.

    The WP Comments are disabled on the site. But still comments from spammers appears. So the WP help says that I should remove

    <?php comments_template( '', true ); ?>
    <?php comments_template(); ?>

    from page.php file.

    But on the Graphene page.php file there is no such code. Which line should I delete to accomplish this?

    Thank you,

    loop-page.php

    <?php comments_template(); ?>

    Use a child theme and copy the original file in there to delete the code bit because it is not recommend to edit original theme files.

    Another alternative is making the code inactive like this /* <?php comments_template(); ? */>.

    I would recommend to not change anything and get a proper plugin that protects you from spam.

    iThemes Security – https://wordpress.org/plugins/better-wp-security/

    Akismet – https://wordpress.org/plugins/akismet/

    I’m using both of them and no spam message has gone through so far. They all land in a spam folder.

    Thank you for the info, but…

    1) Is there a way to test if the Comment system is completely disabled? As mention before, the disabling from WP options still didn’t stop the spams and pings from abusing the site.

    2) How should I copy the loop-page.php to child theme?

    3) Is there anywhere else that has the comments PHP code that I should remove?

    I wish the WordPress CMS core developers create an easy way to completely remove the code with a click of a button instead of all this trouble. 🙁

    1. You will find out by testing. If you stop receiving spam then you know it’s working.

    2. Simply by copying it to the child theme folder. If you don’t have a child theme yet then please inform yourself about what it is http://docs.graphene-theme.com/Customisation_using_a_child_theme

    3. According to your WP help, no.

    PS: Get a child theme and think about installing the 2 plugins. Your life will be much easier.

    Thank you. Yes I have been using Child Theme for a long time. But I only have functions.php and styles.css files in the Child Theme. I guess I just have to make a loop-page.php

    Thanks again; you are really good at this!

    I done did an extensive research and what about this? Will this will completely eliminate the comments? https://www.dfactory.eu/wordpress-how-to/turn-off-disable-comments/
