I wanted something like an introduction page to show up before the first page.

Did it’s the way to do that?

You mean like a “Splash” page. You can do this a multiple of ways… but Graphene doesn’t really offer anything specific for this functionality. It’s more controlled by the user’s preferences rather than the theme. However, splash pages can often be “double-edged swords”… see links below for a nice reference:

I agree with Josh. A splash page puts a lot of people off visiting your site.
