Created child theme but cannot change header and background

    Forgive me for being a complete novice with this…

    I created the child theme and it seems that it is okay; however, I now cannot change my header or background color. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to make the changes to the css now instead of through WordPress appearance? Any and all help is appreciated.

    Is there any error message when you tried to set the custom background and custom header?

    No error message. I just tried it again to make sure. It lets me upload my picture, I even do the “crop and publish”. It acts like it has changed and even has the “visit your site” to see how it looks. I click on it and there are no changes.
