creating a static home page as per codex.wordpress?

Thank you so much for such a great theme! I’ve been able to create so many customizations, thanks to all the support in your forum. So far I’ve been able to figure things out that way, but currently have one point of confusion.

I want my home page to have the slider, but I want the posts to go to a different page.

I realize from reading a support post in your forum that I have to create 2 pages as per codex.wordpress, and that makes sense to me. I don’t understand the two points below from the wordpress article that refer to how to create my new static home page

    1) Set the “Home” template to the default template or any custom template.

** I don’t understand what template to use, how to get it, or what to do with it.

    2) Add content you would like to see within the content area of the “Home” page

**Since I already have my current home page set up with content, will the “template”I use already contain the links to that content?

I hope this makes sense. I really look forward to being able to have my blog as a separate page.

Thanks so much for your help!! 🙂

Please supply link/URL to the site in question!

You have to make a static page /wp-admin/options-reading.php & use the build-in menu system /wp-admin/nav-menus.php, thats it 🙂

Thanks Kim – your advice made sense – I was trying to make it more complicated than it was. It’s all working, with my static page and my blog page. Only one glitch – on the new static home page, underneath the slider there is what looks like an empty post with the header “home” on it, and I don’t know how to get rid of it. http://www.ievolve.ca

    Hi gigi

Its post id-1627 showing on Your static page.

Normal on static page You have some welcome page as frontpage.

If You find post id-1627 what happens if You make it private.

Nice site by the way 🙂

Kim, you are a genius! Everything you’d told me has made it so easy to learn how to use the template and get the look I want! Thanks for the compliment and thanks so much for the help!

Kim I wrote too soon,(though I still think you’re a genius) The post # was associated with the home page I created, so when I made it private it hid the front page. I think I must have missed a step somewhere.

    Here’s what I did:

I created and pubished 2 pages:

    BLOG page

    – left it blank

    HOME page

    – is also blank – (didn’t know what I’m supposed to put in it, and it seemed to work just fine without any content)

    – set the template to default

In reading = Selected Home page as my static page, and blog page for posts

In menus – Added home page to menu

In options – disabled posts in front page

I think I’m supposed to have content in the home page??

Well, I think any text, contact information or picture/info

will be just great on Your Frontpage 🙂

Also it will keep the page in balance with sidebar..:)
