I am using this CSS tag to make my content area transparent.

#content, #content-main {

background:url('http://landmarkoaks.com/xtraimages/trans.png') !important;

}

When I place this in the child theme it does not work. If I go into Appearance/Display Custom CSS and place the same codes it does work.

I have other CSS tags in the child theme that work fine but this one will not.

That rule does work and it is being applied. The problem is that it is on top of this image:

http://landmarkoaks.com/xtraimages/content.jpg

which has a white area just under the post area you would like to be transparent.

Since jpg does not support transparency, you’ll need to replace that version with a png version with the white area removed and allowed to remain transparent. I think that will get you where you want to go.
