Changing the Position of the Slider For a Three Column Layout

    Hi all,

I would like to change my site http://www.vividscribe.com from its current configuration of one right sidebar column next to the content area, to having a sidebar column to the left and right, as per the column mode option in the Graphene Display Options.

That’s all easy and fine, except I don’t like what happens to the Slider when I make that change. The slider gets squashed in between the two sidebars columns on top of the content area.

Is there a way I can change the position of the Slider so that, with the left and right sidebar, it stretches across the entire top of the homepage. I’d like it under the Menus (which are currently underneath the header image) but above both the content area and the sidebars.

I’m a bit slow off the mark when it comes to understanding the technical side of things (only just figured out how to make a child theme, even with step by step instructions!) so please, in as simple as possible terms

    Thanks!

This has been done before, and it looks pretty cool. (Three columns does make things a bit narrow!)

    Congrats! A good first step.

Now read this post and this post which should provide all sorts of clues about how to accomplish this.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Ken,

A few steps in the right direction, but still can’t quite get there.

I’ve managed to get the slider content (but not the border), stretch across to the right but it is still aligned to the left of the content area, before the left sidebar.

Also, the widgets in the right sidebar are on top of the slider when it is extended.

I might try a slider plugin while I nut this out, but would prefer to use the Graphene slider.

    Thanks,

    Kate

Well, you have gone back to a regular format, and your child theme’s CSS doesn’t contain anything new, so…….

Yes, I changed it back to the original format as I didn’t want it left looking like the mess I made of it earlier. I still want to change to a 3 column layout, but won’t until I can figure something out for the slider (and any other display issues I come across).
