Change Header Size

Is there a way to change the header image height size without the need to edit the include code? I want to insure that future theme upgrades don’t kill changes that I make.

I changed #header { height: 309px;} in the custom CSS area and it work, the display area is larger. However when I attempt to upload the image in Appearances >> Header it keeps attempting to crop the image to the 198 size.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Do a search on this forum first. This question has been answered more times than I can remember.

    Thanks for the reply,

I did do a search, which I should have stated and been more clear in my question. In the search I did find an option, which prompted my question about non-code changes. The suggested answer is for a change in functions.php which would be killed with any future theme upgrade, correct?

Not sure which topic you’re referring to, but one such topic where this question is addressed (properly) is here:

    https://forum.graphene-theme.com/graphene-support/resize-header-image-to-height-120px

It does not involve modifying the theme’s functions.php file directly, but rather, the child theme’s functions.php file, which will not be overwritten when you update the theme.
