I am using a couple of plugins that lead to the /mysite/author-n page, where n is the user registration number. I understand that the contents of this page is generated by Author.php file (excuse me if I have this wrong; I am a newbie); in my case, all the pages are the same and look like:
Author’s details none appear
Date registered: none appears
Latest posts Some posts from another user
Most commented posts A post from another user
I would like the page to have the author’s avatar, display name, first and last name, registration date, email, webpage, and any other information they want shown from their profile. I would also like to be able to search for the topics and replies that the author posted (NOT posts and comments) or at least show their latest ones.
Can anyone help me set this up? I know no php, I am afraid. If I have to paste some into the Author.php page, I would appreciate information suitable for dummies. Everything that I have done with the graphene theme and various plugins has been with the Dashboard menus, etc.

WordPress does that automatically; there’s no need for a plugin.
My author page (leaves much to be desired): http://blog.kjodle.net/author/ken/
I can control what appears there by updating my profile. Five posts are shown by default. There is a probably a function to change that, but I’m unaware of it.Quote:If I have to paste some into the Author.php page, I would appreciate information suitable for dummies.
No, you don’t. Try to avoid (i.e., don’t) edit theme files.

I am afraid that I don’t understand; if you go to the following link:/site/?author=2 you will find no pertinent information about user 2 (me) (there was a typo in my previous post–I forgot the ?); you do not see my profile, which has my avatar, my Display name, my first and last name, my email, etc. You see some posts that are not by me and nothing else at all. Something doesn’t seem to be working–I don’t know enough to be more specific. Can you tell me what more information I can supply to help pinpoint the problem?
p.s. Curiously, the display name of the user appears on the tab in firefox, but nowhere on the page.

I just stumbled on this discussion: Support_forum_discussion and it seems relevant; since my site is meant as a forum and will basically have only topics and replies, and NO posts or comments for most users, this could be the problem.
Is there a global way to make WordPress, BBpress, or Graphene, replace the notion of post with starting a topic, and comment with replying to a topic?

Yes, that is weird. It could be a result of one of the plugins you are using. Are you still using those plugins or have you deactivated them?Quote:Something doesn’t seem to be workingQuote:since my site is meant as a forum and will basically have only topics and replies, and NO posts or comments for most users
Then you want to use forum software such as bbPress or phpBB. At the very least, you would want to integrate bbPress into Graphene and go from there. But it seems that you want a forum more than a blog.Quote:Is there a global way to make WordPress, BBpress, or Graphene, replace the notion of post with starting a topic, and comment with replying to a topic?
Well, that contradicts what you stated earlier. To be honest, I have no idea what this would look like, other than a static web site. Do you have an example of this? You can always peek at their source code to find out what platform they are running.

I am using bbPress already–as far as I know, it is integrated into Graphene, though I don’t really know enough to know what that means. I am certainly running the bbPress and bbPress Admin Bar Addition plugins.
I think the reason JanetK and Dame Julian give something is that they posted something–as discussed here: Discussion.
It would be great if Graphene or bbPress or some combination of the two allowed on to count topics as posts and replies as comments.
If you want to see the site, it is here: SITE. Any suggestions, etc., mightily appreciated.
MartinModQuote:Is that very hard to add to Graphene?
Install it like a normal plugin (which it is). Just go to Plugins >> Add New and type “bbPress Search Widget” in the search box. It should be at (or near) the top of the search results, and then you can just click on “Install”.

Sorry, I must be very unclear in my writing; I have installed the plugin, but it is for searches, not for the author page. I meant that what I am looking for is something that can do for the author page what this plugin does for searches, that is, instead of showing the author’s posts and comments, show the author’s topics and replies in the same way that this plugin searches topics and replies instead of posts and comments. Is that still unclear?
I imagine that wiser people who can write plugins and widgets might even be able use some of the code for the search plugin to make a plugin that modifies the author page in this way.

I think I have figured out what it is that I need: is there a way to replace the author page by the bbp_user page, either by intercepting calls to the author page or by linking them, or by having a plugin that would overwrite the author page, or something else, whatever would work?
