Q 1. I want to increase my readership by adding a place for readers to easily insert their email and receive updates. How do I add it to the right column.
Basically, you’re talking about a mailing list, which is an entirely separate function from a blog. A lot of people use Mailchimp for this, but there are other choices. Your host may even offer this option.
Whoever you go with, you’ll need to set it up with them, and then follow their directions to add that function to your blog.
Q 2. How do I change the text in the read more button. It currently says read the rest of the entry – too long and ordinary for me.
