After installing wordpress in the root directory, client would now like a jpeg as a static intro or splash page with no header or formatting. Clicking anywhere on the picture would take the viewer to the regular graphene site.

Have tried adding static page – but just puts the picture in a box inside the theme.

Have tried installing spashgate, didn’t work.

would like the jpeg to dynamically size to fit monitor resolution. suggestions?

There are other plugins that will do this. But you might want to let your client know that most people really hate splash pages. I avoid them—it’s just another layer between me and the content I (presumably) want: http://blog.kjodle.net/2012/01/13/guidelines-for-good-website-design/#Splash_Pages
