Favicon / Site Icon Issue
-
It seems that since I updated my WordPress to the newest version (4.7.1) my site icon has stopped appearing on the front end and only displays the WordPress “W”. It still displays on the back end however. Is there something I can edit in the code to fix this issue, or would this just be a bug? For information’s sake I am using the recommended size of 512 x 512 and it is a png file.
AdminHi Paul,
Please provide a link to your site so that we can investigate further.
Absolutely. My website is: http://beats4freaks.ca
ModI am seeing this as your favicon:
AdminTry setting it in Graphene Options > Display > Miscellaneous > Favicon URL.
Okay, I tried setting the favicon that way (Graphene Options > Display > Miscellaneous > Favicon URL), but it still just shows the WordPress “W” on my site. I tried it through the link that says “upload or select image from gallery” and I also tried manually inserting the URL. As well I tried a couple different file formats (.jpeg, .png) all with the same negative results.
AdminYou’ve done it correctly. However, browsers such as Chrome do cache favicons for sites, so you may not see them updated immediately. Here’s the favicon I see for your site using IE:
App Icons are the images you press on your smartphone to launch an application. As newer phones are released with higher resolution screens, higher resolution app icons are needed. Developers still want to maintain support for the older phones with lower resolution so when you create an app icon you need to create several size variations of the same image. This is true for all smartphones like the iPhone and Android, and even tablets like iPad prepaidgiftbalance.
