Hi everyone,

Great theme, works well for us, thank you for all your hard open source work. We have only one issue and we are not sure is down to the theme.

We need to use the statcounter plugin but we are not getting all the stats we expect collected by it eg downloads or exits. Statcounter just keep saying the code needs to be placed above the </body> tag which it is although it is not the last thing at that point.

Has anyone else had problems with the plugin? We don’t want to mess with hacking php to manually insert it so need to keep things to plugins.

We are on WP 3.5.1 and current WordPress repo theme version 1.8.4.

Any ideas?

There are lots of statcounter plugins. Can you please include a link to the one in question?

I’m sorry, but I don’t see anything in their documentation that recommends this. It looks just like a plugin that is installed in the usual way. Of course, they mention this in their documentation:

I’ve never had to provide ftp credentials to install a plugin via the dashboard, so I’m not quite sure what they’re talking about.

Other than an ego boost, hit counters are rather useless. If you want actual stats that tell you where your visitors are coming from, what browsers they are using, etc. there are plenty here. I can’t really “recommend” any of them, as I haven’t tried any, and their performance may depend on your particular installation of WordPress (theme + plugins) as well as your server configuration. The best advice is to read the support to see if many issues come up (and if they get resolved or even addressed), how many people have downloaded it, how often it is updated, etc. And of course, never pay for anything up front.

Thanks for your help, we usually use our own Piwik so we will go back to that I think. Statcounter seem to be a little light on real tech help!
