How to create changing headers

    I’d like to create a changing header for my main page. Can I achieve this by putting artwork up in the directory of the standard header artwork? and will it then have to be restored every time a new grafhene version is installed?

    No.

    You will have to use a child theme, and then register those new header images in the child theme. You can also deregister the theme’s bundled header images in this way.
