Multiple images appearing on server

    When uploading an image in a post or page multiple versions of that image at different sizes are appearing on the server. Is there a setting to stop making these duplicates?

    That’s default WordPress behavior. It creates thumbnails as per your settings in Settings >> Media.

    This is meant to optimize server performance, since many times WordPress only needs to display a thumbnail image. Creating and loading a thumbnail image takes fewer server resources than loading a full sized image and resizing it via CSS or HTML.

    Is there an issue with these extra image files?
