How to edit information displayed on left side of image-based posts?

My website posts are primarily going to be image only posts. I noticed though that when an image-post is posted that it does not display who it was by or what category it is under in the left hand side of the image. the only thing there is the date it was posted. what part of the theme or theme options do i edit to put the post author, the category or any other information i want displayed in that left sid column next to the image in the post?

If the image has a caption, it will be displayed to the left of the image where you circled it in the screenshot above. See this post for example:

You can add caption to images in WP when inserting that image into the post:
