I was able to customize the color for my general posts using the Graphene options toolbar. But how do I now change the colors for different types of posts – such as a status post. That one is still showing up as the default blue.

That color is generate from the theme’s sprite file. To change it, you’ll either need to edit the sprite image, or just set a different background for those elements via a child theme.
