I want to make a background for post content, page content, and sidebar content areas that is screened, i.e. partially transparent, or in the alternative is a radial gradient going from white in the center to almost transparent at the edges. I can’t figure out how to do this. Thank you!

Well, for post/page backgrounds this is the css:

.post {

background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFF;

}

For sidebar backgrounds:

.sidebar div.sidebar-wrap {

background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #EBFCFD;

}

Just change the background properties to reflect your transparencies or gradients, and add them to your child theme stylesheet.

Thank you. I was able to make some other backgrounds (main wrapper) totally transparent by using the word transparent instead of a color code. But, I don’t know how to make a gradient instead of a color or total transparency. I’m trying to make the backgrounds display at 85% screen under the total text/image area and then fade out to transparent at the edges. Also I know it’s best practice to create a child theme but I haven’t mastered how to do that yet – so will this work if I simply add the code to the custom CSS area under Graphene options? Thank you so much.

There are posts all over about how to accomplish this. Check the Graphene wiki, Josh’s site, Prasanna’s site, my site. It’s easy, but you do have to have FTP access.
