Sorry to keep asking trivial questions. I am looking for the answers but can’t find them.

How do I link one post to another? The desired affect is that you read one post and then, at the bottom of the post, you find a link to click on that will take you to the next post.

I’m in the “post” section and I click on “link2 and choose the post I want to link to. It uploads the URL code into my post, I update the post…..but then when I go to the blog I see nothing.

Sorry, I don’t understand. Am I supposed to copy that into the bottom of the post?

What is the “link” button for when I’m writing posts if not to put a link to other pages?

…..and it’s not that I want to just link the next post. I want to know how to put links to other pages in general…..especially other pages in my blog.

Using the Visual Editor:

Create the pages/posts first. Then edit the page you want to add the link on. Enter the text you want to have as a link, and select it. Then click on the “Add Link” button in the TinyMCE Editor.

In the box that pops up, click on the triangle next “Or link to existing content”. A listing of recent postings will show below that. If you can’t find the post/page you are looking for, enter some search terms in the box. Once you find the post/page, click on it to select it, and then click on the “Add Link” button.

Still not working for me unfortunately. Frustrating as I’m sure it should work no problem.

Not sure if I’m using the visual editor or TinyMCE Editor so I’ll tell you exactly what I’m doing.

I go to Dashboard

Then click on Posts.

Then select the post I want to edit

I then type the text I want to use as a link at the bottom of my post

I select the text

I click on link

In the box I select the other post I want to link to (I’d like to select it to open in a separate window)

I update link

It generally puts the link at the top of the post. I’ve tried moving it. Either way, it never works.

When I update the whole post and go to view it there is never any link

There must be something I’m missing but I can’t think what it is. Do I have to tick or untick something in Graphene options?

By the way, in Permalink setting I’ve selected “post name”. Is this good/bad? Which permalink setting is preferable for site optimisation?

TinyMCE Editor is just an extension for Visual editor.

Disable if you installed any TinyMCE editor. Then check again.

“post name” permalink structure is good for SEO. But, month and name structure is better for speed concerns.

I finally figured it out.

I was in HTML editor rather than visual editor.

Thanks Kenneth, sorry I didn’t understand when you told me to be in visual editor. I hadn’t noticed there was a visual editor and HTML editor option at the top of the post box.

Oops, sorry. I don’t know why I mentioned Tiny MCE Editor. But yeah, I’m glad you figured it out.

I may have to do a tutorial on this soon. It’s a common question, so definitely not trivial.
