Standalone slider

Hi, i'm very new to wordpress, have been dropped in it up to my neck after we lost the guy who was looking after our site.

The first thing that a really wanted to get a defnitive answer on - is there any way to add a separate slider to a single page, other than the front page?

There are slider plugins that you can use. Look for one that lets you add a slider via a short code.
