No Header at Not Found page

    Hi There,

After the recent update of Graphene something strange is happening which I myself can’t seem to fix. Perhaps you guys can help. On my website (http://paynereactor.com) when you enter random characters in the search bar and press enter, the Not Found page appears. However, the banner seems to disappear only at this section of the site. What can be wrong?

    Thanks in advance!

And have you tried the suggestions I gave there? If so, what were the result?

Moved to Support. Please post in the correct section next time.

    Thanks Kenneth for your reply.

The problem is not caused by a plugin or a child theme.

When I dig a little deeper, with my knowledge of things, Google Chrome’s inspect element feature displays that the “src” for the header is not given. Only on this page. If I code it in, the gray border you see now stays.

I also found out more sites have this issue, various sites of members here and online previews. It also appears when there’s no post on a page (like with the not found page) the header disappears.

How can we solve this one?

As far as i see, this is new version bug. I’m having the same problem in 1.9.3.

    With 1.9.2 this isn’t happening.

Spent few hours trying to solve it but with no avail…

That’s a bummer. I hope this will be fixed. The only way I was able to “fix” it was to directly link to the header file in header.php. Not the best solution and for some reason the grey border that appears on the not found page stays.

Sorry, that blog also contains the bug: http://blog.kjodle.net/?s=%22random+characters%22

I downgraded to 1.9.2 for the moment. Updated that theme with various bug fixes you guys provided here. I can bare with the styling not being correct at the back end, front end is more important to me to fully function.

As I said, that issue does appear there. But I think I can live with it, as it only appears on the 404 page. How often does someone search my site, much less come up with a 404? Not often. But if your users use the search function a lot, then downgrading to 1.9.2 makes sense.

OK, we’ll include a fix for this in the next update. In the mean time, you can replace the theme’s includes/theme-functions.php with the latest revision here which includes the fix:

    https://graphene.googlecode.com/svn-history/r598/trunk/graphene/includes/theme-functions.php

To confirm on Ken’s post above, the issue does appear to happen only on 404 page, when the global variable $post isn’t set (cause there’s no post at all).
